WHAT IS dal palak
Palak and dal go very well together. in India we do add veggies to dal and spinach dal is one of those recipes. I have adapted this dal palak recipe from a friend who would make sumptuous food.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup Chana dal (Bengal Gram Dal), Then soak overnight or for 4 to 5 hours or in hot water for 30 minutes. Here I soaked the dal in hot water for 30 minutes.
- 250 grams Spinach Leaves (Palak), washed and chopped
- 3 cups Water
- Salt, to taste
- 2 spoons Oil
- 2 Dry Red Chillies
- 1 tablespoon
- Ginger, chopped
- Garlic, chopped
- 1 Onion, chopped
- 4 Green Chillies, chopped
- 1 Tomato, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)
- 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli powder
- Salt, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- To begin making the Palak Chana Dal recipe, pressure cooks the soaked chana dal with 3 cups of water, salt and Spinach Leaves (Palak) for 5 to 6 whistles and turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
- Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed pan and add ginger garlic.
- After 60 seconds, add onion and saute it until onion turns to golden brown in colour.
- Add chopped tomato and cook them until they become soft.
- Now, add chopped green chillies
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste but remember we have already added salt while boiling dal and spinach.
- Mix all dry spices with the tomato-onion mixture and cook it on medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
- After 2 minutes, add the cooked chana dal and palak (spinach leaves), mix everything well.
- Cook the Palak Chana Dal for next 4 to 5 minutes on low heat and turn off the heat.
- .Transfer the Palak Chana Dal to a serving bowl and serve hot.
- Serving suggestions-Can serve with roti, paratha, steamed rice or jeera rice
