Chana Dal Pulao Recipe

Chana Dal Pulao recipe with video. This is a simple and flavorful traditional Punjabi chana dal Pulao made with basmati rice, Bengal gram, and spices.
This is a protein-rich nutritious dish for your kids. Great to put in your kid's lunch box too.

INGREDIENT

  • Rice – 2 cup
  • Chana Dal / (spilt-skinned Bengal gram) – ½ cup
  • Cooking Oil – 2 tblsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeera – 1 tsp
  • Tomato – 1 large
  • Onion – 1 large
  • Potato – 2 medium
  • Green Chillies – 3 to 4 slit
  • Ginger – 1 tblsp chopped
  • Garlic- 1 tblsp chopped
  • Water – 4 cups
  • Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste


INSTRUCTIONS

  • Rinse ½ cup chana dal a couple of times. Then soak overnight or for 4 to 5 hours or in hot water for 30 minutes. Here I soaked the dal in hot water for 30 minutes..
  • Heat oil in the pressure cooker, add cumin seeds (Jeera) ginger, garlic
  • Add in onions, tomato and green chillies, potato
  • Add in chana dal and mix well.
  • Now add in rice and mix well.
  • Add 4 cup of water and add salt, red chilli powder and mix well.
  • Pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles or about 6 to 7 minutes.
  • Once the pressure settles down on its own, remove the lid.
  • Serve the Punjabi chana dal pulao (khichdi) hot with yogurt or raita, achar.
