Chana Dal Pulao recipe with video. This is a simple and flavorful traditional Punjabi chana dal Pulao made with basmati rice, Bengal gram, and spices.This is a protein-rich nutritious dish for your kids. Great to put in your kid's lunch box too.
INGREDIENT
- Rice – 2 cup
- Chana Dal / (spilt-skinned Bengal gram) – ½ cup
- Cooking Oil – 2 tblsp
- Cumin Seeds / Jeera – 1 tsp
- Tomato – 1 large
- Onion – 1 large
- Potato – 2 medium
- Green Chillies – 3 to 4 slit
- Ginger – 1 tblsp chopped
- Garlic- 1 tblsp chopped
- Water – 4 cups
- Red Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Rinse ½ cup chana dal a couple of times. Then soak overnight or for 4 to 5 hours or in hot water for 30 minutes. Here I soaked the dal in hot water for 30 minutes..
- Heat oil in the pressure cooker, add cumin seeds (Jeera) ginger, garlic
- Add in onions, tomato and green chillies, potato
- Add in chana dal and mix well.
- Now add in rice and mix well.
- Add 4 cup of water and add salt, red chilli powder and mix well.
- Pressure cook for 2 to 3 whistles or about 6 to 7 minutes.
- Once the pressure settles down on its own, remove the lid.
- Serve the Punjabi chana dal pulao (khichdi) hot with yogurt or raita, achar.
